Apart from the peculiar geography – it’s not a city but a firm (General Motors) that has made the decision, and it’s not a “continent” that is affected but car plants mainly in cities in one country (Germany) – there are two important features: first, the process is transnational, and second, it is economic. ![]() Last week the media reported a story with headlines such as: “ Detroit to cut 10,000 jobs in Europe”. 1 I will use a recent news story to introduce this lecture. ![]()
